In the comfort of your own home

2012

In 2012, Brazilian artists were invited to take part in an artistic occupation in London as part of the Cultural Olympics. This project, entitled Rio Occupation London, took 30 artists from a wide range of fields – music, theater, film, visual arts, dance, performance, architecture and design – to a residency in the british capital, to develop various projects that spread across London’s theaters, museums and cultural centers.

Christiane Jatahy was the artistic director of the project, and created In the Comfort of Your Own Home, which involved all the participating artists: the making of a documentary filmed in the homes of inhabitants of different districts of the city. An open call asked those interested in having a work or performance created in their own home by an artist from Rio de Janeiro to send a letter answering a few questions. This letter served as the basis for the creation of the works.

During one month, in a kind of road movie traveling through 30 London homes, the meeting between the artists and the participating residents from the most diverse backgrounds was recorded.

In the Comfort of Your Own Home was shown as a video installation in London and was screened as a documentary film in Lisbon as part of the Artist in the City Biennial 2018.
