When Arms Become Wings
A sound journey
As part of the Soirées Nomades at the Fondation Cartier for Contemporary Art
In a dialogue with the exhibition Claudia Andujar, The Yanomami Struggle
Thursday, September 3, 2020
The Brazilian director Christiane Jatahy enjoys blurring the boundaries between reality and fiction. For this Soirée Nomade, she creates a sound journey inspired by The Falling Sky: Words of a Yanomami Shaman, a seminal work by Davi Kopenawa, spokesperson for the Yanomami of Brazil, and anthropologist Bruce Albert. Equipped with headphones, the audience wanders through the exhibition Claudia Andujar, The Yanomami Struggle. A soundtrack, composed of readings from the book, a soundscape and some simple instructions, guides the audience through the exhibition rooms, creating an invisible performance that culminates in a live event in the garden. Put on your headphones and let yourself be guided!
